The Answer:

What style of photography do you shoot?
I do not have a set style choosing to work with a variety of styles depending on the client or job. With that being said, I do utilize a photojournalistic style the majority of the time. This style allows me the freedom to capture natural, unconstrained images.

Do you shoot in Digital or Film?

Why do 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10 images look different when printed?
This is due to the different aspect ratios of each size. This means the relationship between the pictures sides are different. This best way to explain this is visually so I have included examples below. Proofing pictures are displayed in a 3:2 (standard 4x6) aspect ratio. So when you place an order for a 5x7, 8x10 or similar enlargement, the final result will be cropped and turn out different then the online proof used to order the print. All is cropping and resizing is handled by personally by me and I can provide a resized proof upon request.

4" x 6" Print

( 3:2 Aspect Ratio )

This is a standard aspect ratio for my photographs and is what you will see

inside the proofing galleries.

These prints require no cropping and are printed as is for a standard 4x6 print.

Other 3:2 aspect ratio print sizes:

2x3, 6x9, 8x12, 10x15, 20x30

5" x 7" Print

( 7:5 Aspect Ratio )

This is an example of the same image

using the red box to show the

print area for a 5x7 print.

The grayed out areas will be cropped or cut off so care must be taken to ensure the final print maintains the proper focal points of the image.

Other 7:5 aspect ratio print sizes:

 2.5x3.5, 10x14, 20x28

8" x 10" Print

( 5:4 Aspect Ratio )

In this example you can see a significant portion of the picture will be cropped

when it is printed as an 8x10.

Cropping must be done with great care to insure the original balance and feel

of the image is maintained.

Other 5:4 aspect ratio print sizes:

4x5, 12x15, 16x20, 20x25, 24x30

How do I order a custom print size?
To order a custom print size not listed place the order using the next size bigger then the one you need and add special instructions for the exact size and I will crop it to that size. For example if you need a 10x12 print but only 10x10 or 10x13 are listed. You need to order the 10x13 and let me know you want it cropped down to 10x12. If there is a large gap to the next size from the one you need contact me and I can provide you with a custom quote.

What happens if the weather is bad for my outdoor shoot?
We can reschedule it for a different time and day depending on my schedule. I would like to point out that some of the best or unique pictures can be captured during inclement weather. Wind blowing the trees, leaves flying all around, dancing in the rain with an umbrella, dark ominous rain clouds or white powdery snow open the doors to opportunities for amazing photographs. If we take the risk, then I am willing to split the risk. So if we decide to go for it and you are not satisfied with the result I will do a re-shoot at half price.

No, that would be considered copyright infringement. Making copies of the prints I create for you in any form violates the federal laws protecting them.

No, I maintain the rights to all personal portrait photography I create. I only provide copyright licensing for commercial photography.

Yes, you can purchase web resolution digital copies of your pictures. These include my logo in the corner and can be uploaded to your favorite social network. What should I wear? : Family
These are tips for traditional portraits but I am all for uniqueness or diversity, just like most families. So use these tips as a general guideline not something written in stone. They are your pictures so we can get as creative as you like.

  • Solids or Subtle Patterns

  • 2 or 3 Similar Colors

  • All Casual or All Dressy

  • Outdoors use warm, earth tone colors - off white, grey, tan, brown, green, burgundy, light blue

  • Studio / Indoors use more distinct bright colors - white, black, blue, yellow, pink

  • Avoid contrasting socks and shoes or items that can clash or standout

  • Long sleeves depending on the season and location

  • Prepare family members accordingly in the weeks leading up to the shoot. Try and avoid possible sunburns or over tanning, bad, last minute haircuts or otherwise crazy things that can ruin a family portrait or make it a memory for the wrong reasons.

When in doubt just give me a call. Like I stated before, these are merely guidelines and I can handle anything thrown at me. So remember to relax and enjoy the moment. Nothing stands out more in a photograph than stress.

What should I wear? : Individual
These are tips for traditional portraits but I am all for uniqueness or diversity, just like most people. So use these tips as a general guideline not something written in stone. They are your pictures after all so, we can get as creative as you like.

  • Avoid patterns, stripes and bold designs – these can take the focus away from your face

  • Textures work well

  • Toned down neckties

  • Conservative clothing will look better over time versus trendy or the latest fashion clothing

  • Lighter colors up top, darker colors lower or below the belt

  • For a more narrow neckline use v-neck, scarf or jewelry

  • Avoid hair blocking your eyes causing them to look dark or shadowed

  • Get plenty of sleep leading up to the shoot; bags under eyes are not attractive

  • Makeup should be balanced and well blended, less is more

  • Avoid bright or high contrast evening makeup, use a lighter daytime instead

  • Use a light foundation to even out skin tones

  • Try not to use any light colors or white around the eyes. These can look like odd reflections

  • If wearing a dress shirt, make sure the collar fits properly

  • Avoid any last minute hair cuts so hair can look natural

  • Don’t forget to shave and avoid stubble or razor burn if possible

  • When in doubt just give me a call. Like I stated before, these are merely guidelines and I can handle anything thrown at me. So remember to relax and enjoy the moment. Nothing stands out more in a photograph than stress.
