Many people find the hardest part to understand about professional photography is the printing and proofing. First, there are a ton of choices to choose from regarding size, paper, coating, cropping, and framing. Then you have to decipher the industry-specific lingo that supposedly explains it all.

So I am going to do my best to explain the various options available. I believe the best kind of customer is a well informed one. I personally do not give my money away without knowing exactly what it is I am getting in return so why should I expect you to?

However, I do understand there is only so much I can explain here before the lines begin to blur so feel free to pick the phone up and give me a call. I can usually explain things in greater detail on the phone or setup an appointment to meet with you and let you see sample prints.

What makes a professional print, professional?

The process begins with the photographer. They are responsible for capturing a high quality photo and maintaining the quality through editing, cropping, color correction and any other processes required prior to printing. Next the right paper and printing process must be used to ensure that the result matches that of the original image. This also defines the quality value of a print.

Many people have personal printers, photo paper and can make their own inkjet prints. This process has come along way in quality and durability over the years but it is still not a "real"  or traditional photograph. To make a "real" photograph you must first expose a light sensitive paper and then run it through a chemical process. This produces a photograph that will not bleed and will last hundreds of years if cared for properly. Inkjet prints are made by spraying ink on top of a special absorption paper. This leaves the ink exposed to the elements which can cause it to fade and bleed.

All of your photographic prints are "real" photographs, utilizing the best papers and processing. Your memories are priceless and I honor that by preserving them with the best archival inks and papers.

Kodak Professional Endura Metallic Paper

Luster is the industry standard when it comes to professional printing. It has a high resistance to fingerprints, similar to that of matte paper, and has high color saturation like that of glossy paper without the glare.

Pearl is a beautiful pearlescent paper. It was developed exclusively for digital output and yields a high quality glossy finish ideal for professional applications such as commercial, fashion and portrait photography.

Metallic paper has a high gloss, distinctive metallic look with rich colors and intense blacks creating an image with dynamic visual depth excellent for portrait and commercial printing.
